It might seem like a small drop in the universe to have ones garden violated, robbed of the expected fall harvest. In the grand scheme of life, does it really matter?
Truth be told, I’ve learned something big from those pumpkin snatchers, a lesson about life and God’s greater plan. When I planted those small seeds, expectations were sown, I considered them mine and felt entitled to the coming harvest. But, expectations can lead us down a mired path of disappointment when life doesn’t go our way. When we assume to know the outcome of any planting we put ourselves in God’s place, and stop growing ourselves, no longer open to the unexpected moving of the Holy Spirit. So….now I look upon those stumpy, chewed up stalks and am thankful for the small reminder of who is really in charge of life, and stay open to His will.
