Words carry power, building up or tearing down, blessing or cursing your life. Every day we give and receive words, laden with messages, spoken into our life. Think about what you’ve spoken out loud today, did your words contain doubt, fear, worry, or encouragement, affirmation and love? Did someone speak failure, or rejection over you, saying you couldn’t be successful, pointing out all the barriers standing in your way rather than the strengths God has prepared you with? Why does it matter?
God’s word reveals wisdom and warning regarding this topic:
Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
Proverbs 16:24 Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
Proverbs 13:3 Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Choose your words carefully, for their impact lingers, both in the physical world and the spiritual. What you speak matters! So, next time you open your mouth to speak…stop and evaluate whether the words you are about to use will build up, encourage or bless someone, and if not, reconsider saying them out loud.
