Our coming was foretold by the elders--- Those who would change the future, just as the planet teetered on the edge of darkness. Born on the prophesied day with birthmarks in the form of a crescent moon, they knew us immediately. Swaddled and screaming, we were spirited away by those who hid us, trained us, and kept us safe until our time came. They poured their lives into us. Some died to save us. And now we, the Remnants, protected by Knights of the Last Order, have gathered. Called until we breathe our last … to save the world.
I waited for this novel to be released with great anticipation and it did NOT disappoint! It is now my favorite Lisa Bergren story!
Life on earth has changed in this dystopian fantasy and the Maker has called forth remnants and their knights to battle dark forces seeking ultimate power over all people. Andrianna and Ronan are paired, having trained together since they were children to battle side by side. Andrianna with her gift of empathy and Ronan as her knight, are willing to give their lives in obedience to the Makers’ call.
On the night of their calling everything changes and they are jolted into a journey that will test their faith, even as it strengthens their gifts and draws them closer to their remnant kin.
I really enjoyed this new cast of characters and found Andrianna, as the heroine, to be a very relatable character as she struggles internally with her fears about leaving home and her growing emotions towards Ronan. Would love to see her relationship with Ronan and his character explored more in the series.
Great messages are weaved into the story about the struggle between good and evil and the consequence of giving in to the temptation of darkness. I really loved how the author presents this struggle and how Andrianna’s friends help her overcome, because in life, none of us can go it alone, we really do need each other!
My only complaint is I have to wait until 2015 for the next installment to this series! I highly recommend you put Remnants on your must read list!
